…You can name a fracture easily enough because you have a key card with the names of them. How do you know the names of the Inverter cards? Or can you just pick any one of them without a specific name since they all just flip a linchpin?
A: To refresh, the Dimension Decoder Action says: Name any Fracture or Inverter, find it, and add it to your hand. If someone else is holding it, they must give it to you. If you have to, look through the draw pile, and reshuffle it afterwards.
Since all of the Inverters do the same thing, it doesn’t really matter which one you name. Therefore, if you can’t remember what any of them are called (or if it’s your first game and you don’t even know what any of them are yet), you can just say you’re looking for the first one you find.
However, after you’ve played a few times and learned the card names, there can be strategic reasons for naming a specific one. For example, if you happen to know what cards another player is holding (because of a Mind Mind, Discontinuity, or Trade Hands) and you remember that they have a particular Inverter in their hand, you can use can the Dimension Decoder to take that card away from them.
You might also choose to look for Q Snaps His Fingers, since that one has the added usefulness of also flipping an Anchorpoint. It should be noted, however, that you cannot ask for the Guardian of Forever. Yes, it can also be as an Inverter, but since it’s really a Relic, it can’t be chosen when looking for an Inverter.
